The critically acclaimed film Above the Best, which gives viewers a perspective of the war in Afghanistan from the viewpoint of Army aviators, will premiere at the National Infantry Museum’s Giant Screen Theater on June 19, in conjunction with the museum’s 10th anniversary celebration. The movie will start at 3:30 p.m.

Filmmakers with Princess Gates Entertainment will donate the movie to the museum, just as they did with the film Hornet’s Nest in 2014.

The film, based on the book South of Heaven, uses real footage to create an unprecedented immersive documentary-narrative film. It tells the story of Apache Fighter Pilot Dan Flores and his year-long deployment to the most dangerous place in Afghanistan, the Korengal Valley. Through actual, aerial combat footage and corresponding video from Soldiers on the ground, the film puts audiences in the cockpit and on the ground at the same time like no other film in history. Viewers will understand why Army aviators say they fly “above the best.”

In addition to members of the Army’s aviation and Infantry brigades who were featured in the film, the premiere will be attended by award-winning producer Angelo Paletta, producer and pilot Daniel Flores, Brigadier General (U.S. Army Retired)

Anthony Tata, Army Master Sergeant Terry Best, Army Major Matt Hall and co-director and producer David Salzberg.

“We’re glad to be able to offer this film for special screenings,” said National Infantry Foundation President BG (Ret) Pete Jones. “Both military and civilian audiences will come away with a greater appreciation of what lengths Army aviators go to to protect Soldiers on the ground and each other during intense combat in the most dangerous places on Earth. These real stories of courage and valor fit well with the museum’s mission of honoring Soldiers past, present and future.”

In a statement for the entire cast and crew, Above the Best lead Producer and Princess Gates CEO Angelo Paletta said, “We set out to make a film that would show people what the U.S. military and our allies – Canadians, British and Australian Soldiers – are all going through in Afghanistan. It is with great honor and respect to have Above the Best reside at the National Infantry Museum as a permanent record of these amazing heroes during their service in the War on Terrorism.”

Above the Best releases nationwide on all major digital platforms, including iTunes, Amazon, Playstation and more, on July 2, 2019.
